Senior AI/Data Science Platform Engineer

Overview

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you design, build, and maintain cloud and on‑prem infrastructure used by ML engineers, data scientists, and product teams. You will help scale a fast‑moving MLOps platform and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve reliability and developer experience. The role supports surgical AI initiatives through edge‑computing and cloud connectivity across Medtronic’s Surgical Operating Unit. You will work in a mission‑driven environment that emphasizes impactful healthcare innovation and scalable platforms. Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain cloud (AWS) and on‑prem infrastructure for ML and product teams
• Support ML engineers by handling platform service requests and improving MLOps platform reliability
• Foster productive relationships across engineering teams to align stakeholders
• Articulate technical ideas, risks, and trade‑offs in PRs, design docs, incident reviews, and meetings

Key requirements

• Strong Kubernetes experience (Pods, ReplicaSets, StatefulSets, DaemonSets, Services)
• GitOps mindset with declarative, version‑controlled delivery and PR workflows
• Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS preferred
• Understanding of IAM, networking, compute, storage, observability
• Terraform and/or OpenTofu experience for maintainable infra changes
• Hands‑on Docker experience for building and maintaining secure images
• Experience operating production systems, incident diagnosis, and safe change management
• Ability to design practical platform solutions with limited supervision
• Proven ability to improve developer experience, reliability, security, delivery speed, or efficiency
• Willingness to commute to London 2 days per week
