Overview
In this role you will translate ideas into precision automotive components from prototype to production, ensuring quality, cost, and timing targets. You will work within a manufacturing-focused team to Feasibility, design validation, and ramp-up activities. You will shape the design for production and support continuous improvement in a fast-paced OE environment. Responsibilities
- Develop CAD concepts in CATIA V5 (surface, solid, 2D) based on data and constraints
- Lead design feasibility reviews and verify adherence to standards
- Create detailed CAD models for prototypes and approvals
- Update Manufacturing Feasibility Report (MFR) across project stages
- Develop and validate process flows, PFMEA, Control Plans, and SOPs for pre-production
- Manage prototype builds, coordinate with suppliers and tooling/manufacturing teams
- Oversee design finalisation for production release with proper GD&T and tolerances
- Support production ramp-up and drive continuous improvement initiatives
Key requirements
- Experience as Mechanical Design Engineer or similar in an engineering design/manufacturing setting
- Background in automotive or related sectors (e.g., Chemical, Mining, Rail, Aerospace, Marine, military)
- NPI and process development experience
- Proficiency in CATIA V5 for 3D modelling and 2D drawings
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, datum structures, and manufacturing processes
- Degree or HND in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Production Engineering
- Familiarity with APQP, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Lean manufacturing methods
- Experience in Tier 1 or OEM automotive environments and knowledge of IATF 16949
