Overview
As an Electrical and Controls Project Engineer, you will drive electrical and control system projects that improve safety and production efficiency at Hexcel’s Duxford site. You will lead continuous improvement initiatives from concept to implementation and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust control solutions. You will develop specifications, create documentation, and ensure timely delivery while minimizing production disruptions. This role offers the opportunity to shape site-wide control systems, apply safety standards, and support manufacturing operations in a global aerospace materials company.
Responsibilities
- Support maintenance, project, and process activities to improve safety and production efficiency.
- Lead continuous improvement projects from concept through implementation.
- Develop electrical and control system specifications for manufacturing equipment.
- Create and maintain electrical, instrumentation, and control documentation.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Support site breakdowns and restore production in a timely manner.
- Participate in technical support call-out rota to minimise downtime.
- Propose and implement control system improvements across the site.
- Plan and manage project timelines, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
- Communicate project progress effectively to stakeholders and management.
Key requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Background in electrical controls/instrumentation engineering.
- Experience in manufacturing or process environments.
- Knowledge of PLC systems (e.g. Rockwell Logix 5000 & 500, RSView).
- Understanding of safety systems (e.g. SIL, Safety PLCs).
- Knowledge of industrial drives (e.g. Allen Bradley, ABB).
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills (e.g. 4–20mA loops, controllers).
- Familiarity with risk assessment methods (e.g. HAZOP, FMEA).
- Understanding of ATEX, commissioning, and machine safety standards.
- Competence in Microsoft Office and basic CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, EPlan).
