Overview

As Lead Project Engineer you will own the signalling project engineering from concept through to handback on a client-side CCS programme. You will provide technical leadership, maintain ownership across the scheme, and act as the intelligent client for signalling matters. You will manage contractor queries, assure design and construction against client requirements, and oversee interfaces with wider railway contracts. You will fulfil Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015 and NEC3 Supervisor duties within scope, contributing to a high‑impact, multi-discipline delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for signalling on the CCS project from concept to commissioning
  • Maintain technical ownership and coordinate engineering across the programme
  • Act as intelligent client for signalling; route contractor queries to SMEs
  • Lead engineering assurance against client standards and specifications
  • Manage interfaces between CCS contracts and wider railway systems contracts (stations, civils, power, telecoms)
  • Communicate technical requirements to supply chain and ensure outputs meet requirements
  • Discharge Principal Designer duties under CDM 2015 and NEC3 Supervisor duties
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (civils, systems integration, power, telecoms) to align design and construction outputs

Key requirements

  • Senior signalling engineer with hands-on experience on high-speed or main line railway signalling
  • Experience across CCS design, installation, testing and commissioning
  • Ability to manage client–contractor interfaces and provide technical direction without micromanagement
  • Experience in multi-discipline coordination with civils, systems integration, power and telecoms
  • Familiarity with CDM 2015 Principal Designer duties and NEC3 contract administration
  • Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent via a professional institution
  • Background spanning concept to construction and commissioning
  • Experience on major UK rail infrastructure programmes (advantageous)
