Overview

In this role you will lead cost management for a major project in a nuclear/regulated setting, coordinating with project controls and managers to ensure timely, accurate cost information. You will apply NEC4 knowledge to manage compensation events, forecasts, and change control, while overseeing estimating, budgeting, and subcontract cost management. The position is site-based with hybrid options, demanding hands-on commercial oversight and strong collaboration with the client and project team. This role offers meaningful impact on project outcomes and cost efficiency within a secure sector.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cost-management function across the project lifecycle
  • Prepare and review estimates, budgets, and forecasts
  • Manage subcontract procurement, cost/value reconciliation, and final accounts
  • Produce commercial reporting and monitor change, risk, and project controls
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and project-controls personnel to provide timely project information
  • Apply NEC4 knowledge to compensation events, defined cost, and forecasting
  • Maintain strong IT and spreadsheet capabilities for cost analysis
  • Engage with clients and project teams to ensure clear, proactive communication

Key requirements

  • Strong contractor-side commercial and cost-management experience
  • Detailed practical knowledge of NEC4 (compensation events, quotations, defined cost, forecasting, change management)
  • Estimating and cost planning experience
  • Cost-management and cost-control across project lifecycle
  • Experience with subcontract procurement, cost/value reconciliation, applications, final accounts, and commercial reporting
  • Understanding of project controls and the relationship between cost, programme, change, risk, and forecasting
  • Ability to work with Project Managers and project controls to provide accurate project information
  • Good IT skills, especially Excel and construction/commercial management systems
  • Strong analytical and client-facing, collaborative communication skills
  • Nuclear, defence or other secure/highly regulated sector experience preferred
