Overview
In this role you will lead technical design delivery within Galliford Try’s Environment Business, focusing on water and wastewater schemes. You’ll work with the Design Team and senior engineers to ensure high-quality outputs and governance, while mentoring junior engineers. You will collaborate across disciplines and with the supply chain to drive innovative, buildable designs. This is an opportunity to shape project outcomes on UK water projects and contribute to our digital design initiatives.

Responsibilities
- Provide technical compliance and quality on design outputs
- Act as discipline lead for projects
- Seek solutions balancing capital and operating costs
- Design for buildability and safe construction
- Ensure procedural governance adherence
- Ensure designs meet client specs and H&S standards
- Promote innovation, value engineering and digital design
- Support pre-contract design activities
- Share lessons learned with the Design Team
- Line manage multi-disciplinary design engineers
- Mentor and develop staff towards accreditation
Key requirements
- Process calculations, mass balances, heat balances and hydraulic calculations
- Process block diagrams, PFDs and P&IDs
- Process control philosophies and commissioning plans
- HSE and technical governance knowledge
- Degree-level engineering or equivalent; Chartered member preferred
- Experience in contracting/consulting environments with commercial awareness
- Strong discipline design checking/approval experience
- Knowledge of H&S legislation and British Standards
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management
- Proficiency in Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and cost/performance systems
