Overview
Senior Consultant in Arup’s Safety Risk and Reliability team leads safety assurance work on rail projects, from hazard analysis to safety cases, collaborating with clients and independent assessors. You will guide risk reduction across the rail value chain, including signalling, infrastructure, and operations, while supporting evolving technologies and regulatory compliance. The role blends technical leadership with stakeholder facilitation in a purpose-driven, inclusive environment.

Responsibilities
- Lead defined safety assurance tasks, ensuring on-time, on-budget, and high-quality outputs
- Deliver system safety activities (hazID, hazOP, FMECA, FTA) and develop safety cases
- Chair safety workshops with clients, partners and specialists
- Coordinate technical safety and risk engineering activities, including safety management systems
- Support risk reduction and assurance per standards and engineering principles
- Assist clients adopting new technologies and respond to strategic challenges (decarbonisation, digitalisation, climate resilience)
- Collaborate with Independent Safety Assessors/AsBo and prepare safety evidence
Key requirements
- Chartered Engineer with membership of a relevant professional institution
- Experience leading safety and risk assessment programmes (qualitative and quantitative) in rail
- Understanding of safety assurance for Authorisation for Placing into Service and UK/European legislation (ROGS, CSM RA, NTSNs, TSIs, EN 50126/50129/50716)
- Experience with HAZID, HAZOP, FMECA, FTA; developing safety cases and justifications
- Experience across rail value chain elements; collaboration with ISA/AsBo
- Fluent in Danish, Dutch and/or German (desirable)
