Overview
In this role, you will lead SHEQ strategy across multiple live sites for a respected main contractor. You’ll embed a safety-first, quality-driven culture, work with boards, directors and supply chains, and drive compliance across all operations. You will shape risk management, sustainability, and training to raise standards beyond ticking boxes. This is a pivotal leadership role that combines governance, site delivery, and continuous improvement to protect people and deliver high-quality projects. Your impact will be visible in safer sites, stronger accreditation performance, and a learning-centred organisation.

Responsibilities
- Chair H&S committee meetings and embed continuous safety improvement
- Develop, refine, and enforce SHEQ systems, risk assessments, and safe work practices across all sites
- Oversee incident investigations, generate reports, and close out actions
- Lead on HRB regulation policies and support bid teams with SHEQ input for tenders
- Maintain industry accreditations (ISO 45001, CHAS, Constructionline, BSC)
- Deliver monthly performance reports for the board
- Own and manage ISO 14001 accreditation and SWMPs, conduct audits of waste suppliers and environmental performance
- Maintain ISO 9001 certification and oversee quality audits on active sites
- Lead initiatives to raise the quality bar from pre-construction through to handover
- Manage training records and ensure teams are certified and fit for purpose
- Support subcontractor training needs and drive a learning-first culture
Key requirements
- Chartered Member of IOSH (essential)
- NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma or equivalent H&S qualification
- Deep knowledge of UK H&S law and its application on construction sites
- Strong leadership skills with ability to influence at all levels
- Proven SHEQ leadership in a main contractor with multi-site experience
