Design Manager – Water & Wastewater

Overview

Lead a multi-disciplinary design team to deliver water/wastewater infrastructure from feasibility to asset management. You will partner with clients and contractors to craft robust technical solutions and guide packages from concept to handover. This role places you at the technical heart of AECOM’s water projects, shaping outcomes for utilities like Wessex Water, South West Water, Welsh Water, and Thames Water. Responsibilities

• Direct multi-disciplinary technical delivery of water/wastewater projects through design lifecycle (feasibility to asset management)
• Collaborate with clients, contractors and stakeholders to develop robust technical solutions
• Manage key work packages from conception to handover, coordinating internal teams and external partners
• Act as primary technical interface for clients and contractor partners
• Provide mentorship and development support to team members (line management optional)

Key requirements

• Degree in engineering (e.g., civil, electrical, mechanical) or equivalent
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with ICE, CIWEM or similar
• Extensive water/wastewater engineering experience (treatment schemes and/or network design)
• Proven track record delivering technical projects in collaboration with engineers and specialists
• Strong client and contractor relationship management in the water sector
• Quality assurance mindset with ability to review deliverables
• Mentorship enthusiasm and team development focus
• Ability to support bids and fee proposals
• Experience in a similar role for water company or consultancy
