Overview

In this role you will lead civil engineering design for water and industrial projects from feasibility through detailed design, collaborating with project managers, designers and specialists. You will own smaller projects or parts of larger schemes while shaping junior engineers’ development. The position offers exposure to water treatment works, pipelines and related infrastructure, emphasizing safety, quality and cross-disciplinary collaboration. This is a hands-on senior role with a clear impact on project delivery, technical integrity and client outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead civil engineering design from feasibility to detailed design, including calculations and technical inputs
  • Coordinate preparation of technical drawings, reports and documentation
  • Support project delivery to budget, schedule and quality targets
  • Take responsibility for smaller projects or defined elements of larger schemes
  • Assist with financial and commercial management of engineering commissions
  • Mentor and supervise junior engineers and share knowledge
  • Apply British Standards, water industry standards and company best practice
  • Collaborate within multi-disciplinary design teams to achieve best-for-project outcomes
  • Contribute to a strong safety, quality and performance culture

Key requirements

  • 8+ years’ experience in civil engineering design, preferably in water/industrial sectors
  • Experience delivering designs for water retaining structures, treatment works, pipelines and pumping stations
  • Strong ability to prepare and check high-quality calculations, drawings and reports
  • Good understanding of multi-disciplinary design environments
  • Experience leading projects or technical workstreams
  • Proficiency with British Standards and water industry standards; use of analysis/design software
  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status with ICE or actively pursuing chartership
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers
