Senior / Principal Transport Planner

Overview

In this role you will lead and shape transport planning contributions for development projects within a specialist team. You’ll collaborate with cross‑functional groups, manage technical solutions, and mentor junior staff while safeguarding project quality and deadlines. You’ll engage with highway authorities and project stakeholders, driving delivery and financial performance. The opportunity combines technical leadership with client-facing responsibilities in a growth‑focused transport planning practice.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of technical transport planning solutions and ensure high-quality inputs aligned with company standards
• Coordinate inputs from multiple departments to deliver projects on time
• Mentor junior staff and assume line-management responsibilities in the future
• Oversee financial performance of projects, including fee proposals, change control, and invoicing
• Represent the company in client meetings, public consultations, and highway authority negotiations
• Provide technical support to senior management and contribute to appeal work as needed

Key requirements

• MSc Transport Planning advantageous but not essential
• Professional qualification or progress toward IEng/CEng (ICE/CIHT) or TPP
• 5+ years’ experience in development planning (private sector preferred)
• Experience delivering core transport planning services and driving projects independently
• Knowledge of highway design guidance (MfS, DMRB)
• CAD experience advantageous but not essential; essential ability to check drawings
• Strong proficiency with ARCADY, PICADY, LINSIG, GIS, Excel
• Experience contributing to appeal work is advantageous
