Overview
In Ampthill, you join the Operations Engineering team as the Senior Composites Manufacturing Engineer to support the full product lifecycle, from design through production and end-of-life. You will focus on reducing manufacturing costs and improving yield, directly impacting customers while helping the programme meet milestones. You’ll act as the main engineering contact for your area, driving proactive quality and process improvements. The role combines cross-functional collaboration with hands-on problem solving to elevate product quality and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering advice and problem solving for your area of expertise
- Coordinate activities to support current and future business needs
- Drive right-first-time quality and continuous improvement to lower costs
- Support full product lifecycle, including prototype design, build and documentation
- Contribute to build documentation and production readiness
- foster cross-functional collaboration to improve efficiency and quality
Key requirements
- Detailed composites processing knowledge (winding, layups, resin infusions)
- Experience with carbon fibre and silica materials
- Knowledge of assembly and bonding techniques
- Knowledge of bagging and curing techniques
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and quality improvement tools
- CAD software for generating 2D drawings
- Solid understanding of MRP/ERP systems and managing BOMs and routings (SAP or similar)
- Proven ability to drive cultural and process change and to collaborate for continuous improvement
