Engineering Manager – Pro

Overview

As Lead Engineering Manager for Kraken’s trading backend, you will lead a team of 8–10 engineers owning core trading services like the matching engine, market data gateways, and order entry. You’ll evolve the trading stack from legacy to modern systems while staying technically hands-on to unblock architecture discussions. You’ll champion performance and market data work and introduce AI-assisted practices, collaborating with product and other pods to drive roadmaps. You shape impactful, scalable infrastructure for a global crypto platform.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of 8–10 engineers owning core trading backend services (matching engine, market data gateways, order entry)
• Guide evolution from legacy systems to modern trading stack
• Stay technically close to the stack to unblock and contribute to architecture discussions across matching engine, market data, and order entry
• Champion performance and market data work as top priorities
• Introduce AI-assisted engineering practices into the team’s workflow
• Partner with product and other engineering pods to drive roadmap execution
• Represent the team technically with peers and stakeholders, communicating tradeoffs and progress

Key requirements

• Experience managing engineering teams with a hands-on, technically engaged approach
• Hands-on experience in Linux with distributed/concurrent systems or low-latency/high-volume environments
• Proficiency in Rust and/or C++, comfortable with C++, Rust, Go, and Python in a split-stack environment
• Knowledge of order types, trading systems, and financial products
• Experience with Aeron or similar messaging/transport systems (strong plus)
• Comfort with multicast-based market data distribution (plus)
• Cryptocurrency/blockchain familiarity preferred
• Proactive, prioritization-focused mindset suitable for aggressive deadlines
• Bachelor in Technical or Quantitative Field
