Overview

In this role, you will lead and shape transport planning efforts within our Transport & Mobility team in Basingstoke, delivering across active travel, transport strategies and development‑related studies for public and private clients. You will manage project delivery, budgets and teams, contributing to cross‑disciplinary, multi‑sector projects. You will drive technical excellence, bid development and client engagement while supporting knowledge sharing within a flexible, hybrid work environment. This is a central, high‑impact position that helps grow our regional and national mobility portfolio and stakeholder partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a broad range of transport planning projects, including budgeting, programming and technical delivery.
  • Support the Basingstoke team with workload management and technical/ pastoral leadership.
  • Contribute to bids, fee proposals and project programmes.
  • Present at internal/external technical knowledge events and supervise junior staff.
  • Collaborate with cross‑disciplinary offices and senior colleagues to expand client work across the UK.

Key requirements

  • Experience with local authorities in active travel, public transport, scheme development, transport studies, strategies and appraisals
  • Experience in development management, statutory consultation and planning appeals (desirable)
  • Experience preparing Transport Assessments and Travel Plans; providing design advice to developers and architects
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills; proficient with MS Office, Excel, transport data analysis; experience with TRICS and junction modelling programs
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to liaise with clients, stakeholders and teams
  • Project management experience, including briefs, tenders, fee proposals and leading project delivery; supervising workloads and managing client expectations
