Department Head – Piping

Overview

In this Piping Department Head role, you will lead the piping discipline across multiple locations, ensuring technical integrity, quality and efficient delivery. You’ll manage design, piping stress, and dimensional control activities, while developing your team and coordinating with clients and suppliers. You’ll act as the technical authority for piping and drive cross-discipline collaboration to optimise delivery and reduce rework. The opportunity suits an established engineer looking to shape a high-impact, multi-site group.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and assure technical content and quality of work for the piping discipline
• Manage personnel and development within the department
• Ensure design integrity, cross-discipline delivery and workflow sequencing
• Timely tender preparation and approval, and delivery of documentation packages
• Act as technical and commercial authority for the department
• Lead resource management and capacity planning
• Maintain QHSE compliance and promote PD&MS values
• Oversee competence, training, mentoring, and performance reviews
• Engage with clients, suppliers, and certifying authorities in a professional manner
• Monitor procedures, risk assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives

Key requirements

• BSc in Engineering
• Chartered Engineering Status (preferred)
• Significant experience in Detailed Design Engineering and Engineering Checking/Approval
• Experience in managing and developing others
• Understanding of all Engineering disciplines
• Knowledge of Oil & Gas industry codes and standards
• Proficiency with Autodesk Design products
• MS Office proficiency
• Excellent English communication skills
