Mechanical Design Manager / Mechanical Design Team Lead

Overview

As Mechanical Design Manager you will lead a small design team to own delivery of specialist automation projects. You’ll balance hands-on mechanical design with people leadership, driving design quality, standards and continuous improvement. You’ll work on concept-to-manufacture delivery of bespoke machinery for dairy, pharmaceutical and related sectors, in a collaborative engineering culture. The role offers autonomy, growth, and the chance to shape the mechanical design function under the Engineering Director.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a design team of 4 with workload and resource planning
• Hands-on mechanical design of special purpose machinery (automation, conveyors, robotics)
• Own delivery standards, quality and KPIs; drive continuous improvement
• Oversee projects from concept through to manufacture, assembly and commissioning
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure on-time, within-spec delivery

Key requirements

• Mechanical design background in automation / special purpose machinery / robotics
• Prior leadership experience (Team Lead or Supervisor)
• 3D CAD experience (Autodesk / Fusion)
• Willingness to commute to a rural site (own transport)
