Senior Highways Engineer

Overview

As a Senior Highways Engineer you will help design civil engineering schemes from concept through detailed design, focusing on roads, drainage and related infrastructure. You’ll collaborate with engineers, technicians and project leads to deliver designs on time and within budget, while engaging with clients and stakeholders. Site visits, surveys and adherence to health, safety and quality standards will be part of your routine, along with professional development to expand your skills. This role offers hybrid working and a pathway to chartership within a growing multi-disciplinary practice that serves residential, commercial, and transportation sectors.

Responsibilities

• Design civil engineering schemes from concept to detailed design (roads, drainage, earthworks, infrastructure)
• Prepare calculations, reports and documentation to codes and standards
• Assist in managing technical aspects of projects, including client and stakeholder liaison
• Produce clear designs, drawings, reports and specifications meeting internal quality and regulatory standards
• Support client meetings with technical insights to align with expectations
• Coordinate design activities with engineers, technicians and project leads to ensure timely delivery
• Conduct site visits and surveys to gather information for design
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and contribute to risk assessments
• Engage in professional development to enhance skills and knowledge

Key requirements

• Understanding of civil engineering principles and design codes for highways, drainage, flood risk, utilities
• Knowledge of CDM Regulations
• Experience with AutoCAD (including Vehicle Tracking), Civil 3D, MicroDrainage and PDS
• Full clean driving licence
