Overview
In this role you will lead the design and analysis of building structures within Waterman’s Structures team in London. You will deliver innovative, compliant structural solutions across project lifecycles, collaborating with architects, clients and multi-disciplinary teams. You’ll produce 3D designs, drawings and reports, while upholding health, safety and sustainability. You will mentor junior engineers and develop leadership skills through mentoring and hands-on supervision. This is a pivotal opportunity to contribute to a net zero built environment and to shape the company’s structural design capabilities.

Responsibilities
- Design and analyse building structures and deliver detailed designs, drawings, specifications and guidance notes
- Create high-quality written reports for internal and external audiences
- Collaborate within an integrated multidisciplinary team across project lifecycles
- Ensure health, safety and sustainability considerations are central to all work
- Liaise with architects, clients and design teams to develop integrated structural solutions
- Support and supervise junior team members, provide learning input and verify design calculations/drawings
- Engage in mentoring and leadership development through Waterman’s mentoring programme
- Contribute to business development and client-facing activities
- Maintain deadlines and accuracy in all deliverables
Key requirements
- Relevant civil or structural engineering degree
- Chartership achieved or working towards becoming a chartered structural engineer
- Innovative and creative approach to structural design
- Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and designer’s responsibilities; experience with British Standards
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engineers and non-engineers
- Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills with ability to meet tight deadlines
