Overview
In this role you will help shape protection and control solutions for UK power projects at up to 400 kV. You’ll work within a collaborative energy transition team on HVDC, substations, interconnectors, and related schemes, guiding concepts through detail design and energisation. You will partner with clients and suppliers to drive innovative, standards-driven outcomes that support sustainable infrastructure. This is a growth-focused opportunity with exposure to national-scale projects and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Develop scoping documents and Main Connections & Protection Diagrams
- Review P&C designs produced by third parties
- Specify P&C equipment such as relays, CTs, and VTs
- Produce detailed AC/DC schematics and protection settings
- Conduct protection grading studies and generate relay files
- Review commissioning plans and participate in commissioning panel meetings
Key requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field
- Experience as a Protection & Control Design Engineer on Distribution Networks
- Knowledge of protection relays, relay panels, CT/VT sizing, grading studies, and AC/DC drawings
- Familiarity with UK electrical practices and standards; understanding of CDM regulations
- Strong safety mindset with experience in risk mitigation
- Ideally experience with National Grid processes
