Senior Legal Counsel

Overview

As Senior Legal Counsel you will advise senior stakeholders across Legal, Compliance, Risk, Product, Operations and Technology on consumer credit and financial services matters. You will support the design and management of regulated financial products and customer propositions, while negotiating commercial contracts and guiding regulatory change. This role sits in a collaborative, high‑circle legal team that helps the business scale responsibly within a complex regulatory framework. You will influence business decisions, shape compliant customer solutions, and mentor junior colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Advise on consumer credit, FCA requirements, and related regulatory frameworks
• Support the design, launch and ongoing management of regulated financial products and customer propositions
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements including technology, outsourcing, supplier, distribution and data-sharing
• Lead and support regulatory change projects, horizon scanning and implementation of new requirements
• Advise on governance, risk management and compliance frameworks
• Support regulatory engagements, investigations, information requests and remediation
• Provide practical legal training and guidance to business stakeholders
• Manage external advisers and contribute to developing junior team members

Key requirements

• Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with strong post-qualification experience
• Knowledge of UK financial services regulation and consumer credit law
• Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
• Excellent drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into pragmatic commercial advice
• Strong commercial awareness and sound judgement in a fast-paced environment
• Confident in engaging with senior stakeholders and influencing decisions
• Exposure to outsourcing, operational resilience, technology contracts, data protection or financial promotions is advantageous
