As a Senior Commercial Manager in WSP’s PMCM Rail Team, you drive the commercial success of high‑impact rail programmes. You work with client teams to safeguard performance, governance, and risk management across multidisciplinary projects. You operate across client sites, offices and project sites, shaping commercial outcomes on fast‑paced programmes. You will lead client relationships, oversee budgets and forecasts, and steer commercial processes from start to close. This is a strategic, high‑visibility role that blends leadership with hands‑on commercial delivery to support the UK’s rail investments.

Responsibilities
- Lead key client and stakeholder relationships as a trusted commercial advisor
- Prepare monthly commercial, cost and risk reports to clarify project performance
- Oversee commercial management aligned with contract requirements and governance
- Manage budgets, cost estimation, forecasting, tracking and reporting
- Negotiate commercial terms with suppliers and contractors with client procurement
- Support supply chain commercial management fostering collaboration and trust
- Ensure compliance with client procedures and standards
- Review and approve expenditures, invoices and commercial submissions
- Chair commercial meetings with contractors, suppliers and delivery partners
- Administer contracts through lifecycle including formation, delivery and close‑out
- Lead change management including variations, claims and compensation events
- Monitor contract performance and draft contractual correspondence
- Conduct financial forecasting, risk assessment and mitigation planning
- Optimize resource allocation to meet commercial and programme targets
- Identify and mitigate commercial risks with regular risk reduction meetings
Key requirements
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or related discipline
- Professional accreditation or progress towards MRICS or MCIOB
- Strong experience in commercial management in Rail or transportation infrastructure
- Experience delivering major projects in client-side or consultancy environments
- Exposure to organisations such as Network Rail, HS2, TfGM or other rail delivery bodies
- Proven ability to deliver commercial outcomes on multidisciplinary programmes
- Strong leadership, communication and influencing skills with credibility
- Proficiency in commercial management tools and software
- In-depth understanding of NEC3/NEC4 and wider rail industry practices
