Overview
In this role, you will develop and deliver grid connection services for renewable energy projects across the UK and Ireland. You’ll work within AECOM’s Energy team to perform power system studies, grid code compliance, and due diligence, shaping projects from siting to commissioning. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients to drive technical outcomes and accurate budgets. Responsibilities
- Support electrical design through power system studies
- Carry out grid code compliance studies using PowerFactory, PSCAD, and PSS/E
- Participate in interdisciplinary project reviews
- Perform grid connection due diligence including prospecting, optioneering, risk and capacity assessments
- Apply PS&E discipline expertise across project stages
- Develop construction cost estimates and technical effort estimates
- Lead or support quality control of designs and calculations
- Prepare technical specification sections
- Contribute to engineering budget and schedule development
- Liaise with OEMs and clients to achieve technical outcomes
- Support bids and proposals
Key requirements
- Proven experience in Engineering Design Consultancy, OEM, or Utility Network Planning and connections
- Understanding of transmission and distribution planning and connection processes
- Strong knowledge of UK Grid Code, G99, G5/5, P28; Ireland Grid Code knowledge beneficial
- Proficient in PSCAD, PowerFactory, and Python scripting
- PSSE and ETAP experience desirable
- Understanding of control and protection for HV substations, lines, generators, transformers, reactive equipment
- Basic understanding of power electronics and control systems for renewables
