Rolling Stock Engineer – Rail

Overview

In this role you will lead testing and integration of rolling stock for London Underground and related networks, providing technical leadership and project management to ensure smooth introduction of trains into passenger service. You work closely with depot, stabling teams and senior management to manage risk, reporting, and delivery of the test fleet obligations. This is a hands-on, shift-based position focused on reliability, safety and timely deployment of new trains.

Responsibilities

• Manage test fleet activities across multiple rail classes and depots
• Provide technical leadership and project management for rolling stock introduction into passenger service
• Coordinate technical interfaces for new trains entering service
• Support the Senior Fleet Manager and deputise as required
• Track, monitor, and escalate rolling stock test obligations per the master test programme
• Manage, update, and close out rolling stock test fleet risks in the engineering risk management plan and implement internal reporting

Key requirements

• Substantial modern rolling stock engineering experience
• 25 kV fleet knowledge
• Experience with modern signalling systems (CBTC, ETCS)
• Diagnostics and prognostics capabilities
• Depot operations, stabling, train preparation, remote repair, modification programs, maintenance practices
• Familiarity with UK and international rolling stock standards
• Understanding of railway safety regimes and safety management systems
