Principal Building Services Engineer (Electrical)

Overview

In this role you will lead electrical building services projects for both private and public sectors from a Nottingham base, guiding a team and mentoring early-career professionals. You’ll deliver technically robust and commercially viable designs, feasibility studies, and contract documentation while coordinating with clients and contractors. The position emphasizes collaboration, safety compliance, and delivering projects on time. You’ll contribute to a sustainable built environment and opportunity to shape the team’s growth within a national network.

Responsibilities

• Deliver portfolios of work across private and public sectors
• Prepare designs, feasibility studies, reports, and contract documents
• Carry out building analysis
• Manage various contracts
• Liaise with clients and contractors
• Ensure projects are delivered accurately and on time
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and graduate trainees
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety requirements

Key requirements

• HND/Degree or equivalent professional qualification
• Knowledge of BS7671
• Knowledge of Health & Safety/CDM requirements and current regulations
• Familiarity with electrical and lighting design software (Hevacomp/Amtech/Dialux)
• Excellent communication skills; collaborative and self-motivated
• Structured wiring system and security system design experience
• Knowledge of construction industry design processes and procurement
• Resource planning and management experience
• Fire alarm and emergency lighting design experience
• Business development experience
