Overview

As Electrical System Engineer at GKN Aerospace, you will join the Electrical Network team within the Global Technology Centre to advance hydrogen-based, sustainable aerospace power systems. You will help define and verify system-level electrical requirements across the product lifecycle, collaborating in a multidisciplinary environment to ensure performance, safety, and certification. You’ll work on architecture, modelling, simulation, and testing to demonstrate system behaviour and reliability. This role offers meaningful impact shaping next-gen aerospace power solutions and sustaining our industry leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Capture and analyse stakeholder, customer, regulatory and certification requirements
  • Decompose high-level needs into subsystem and component requirements
  • Support development and maintenance of electrical system architectures and interfaces
  • Develop system models to evaluate behaviour and performance
  • Run simulations to assess functionality, efficiency, control strategies and failure responses
  • Conduct trade studies to inform design decisions
  • Create test specifications, procedures and acceptance criteria
  • Support lab, rig, subsystem and system-level testing activities

Key requirements

  • B.Eng degree or equivalent
  • Experience in systems requirements elicitation and analysis
  • Strong understanding of safety assurance practices for safety-critical systems (FTA, FHAs, FMEAs, bow-ties)
  • Experience with a requirements management tool (Codebeamer, Polarion, DOORs)
  • Learning mindset; comfortable with ambiguity
  • Collaborative mindset and cross-functional teamwork
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
