Overview
In this role, you will lead hydraulic modelling initiatives to support flood risk assessment and urban drainage design for clients across the public, private, and international sectors. You will work in a cross-site Modelling team within Arup’s Water group, delivering end-to-end hydraulic analysis and Nature‑based solutions that align with the firm’s sustainability focus. You will shape design decisions through 1D/2D modelling, GIS outputs, and clear technical reporting, while mentoring junior staff and collaborating with stakeholders to create resilient water infrastructure.

Responsibilities
- Build and apply hydraulic models (including integrated models) to inform design solutions
- Lead hydraulic modelling projects across the full design process from planning to build support
- Develop stormwater management designs and evaluate 1D/2D risk scenarios
- Mentor and coordinate technical specialists; produce reports, business cases and calculations checks
- Extract results with GIS, produce technical reports and visuals to communicate concepts
- Collaborate with cross-site teams (Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester) and clients across the UK
- Support nature-based solutions and integrated urban drainage modelling
- Contribute to project governance, including cost control and risk management
Key requirements
- Proven track record delivering UK water projects with public/private/regulatory clients
- Experience with InfoWorks ICM; Level 1 UPM water quality modelling or integrated urban drainage modelling including fluvial studies
- Degree in Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science, or related field; progress toward chartership
- Strong project management and client/stakeholder management skills
- Commercial awareness and ability to monitor project performance and profitability
- Analytical, detail-oriented, and able to solve complex hydraulic problems
