Product Development Technologist

Overview

In this role you help validate product developments and enable smooth launches by preparing documentation, evaluating recipes, and supporting product teams. You work closely with NPD and packaging teams to turn briefs into tangible products, ensuring quality, shelf-life, and sustainability considerations. You’ll drive kitchen testing, supplier coordination, and internal panels to showcase new concepts. This role offers a hands-on opportunity to shape product development within a fast-moving, value-driven food company.

Responsibilities

• Input recipes into the recipe management system to assess cost and nutrition and align with briefs
• Brief new, revised and repeat material requirements to NPD buyers and packaging teams to secure resources
• Prepare documentation (feasibility forms, submission forms, handovers) for product developer approval
• Assist with kitchen-made samples for internal panels, nutritional testing and customer presentations
• Plan and prepare product samples, coordinate procurement and courier logistics, document findings and next steps for product panels
• Conduct kitchen organoleptic testing through shelf-life, suggest recipe reformulations to meet shelf-life and quality targets
• Follow critical path timelines, escalate risks to prevent delays
• Incorporate sustainability considerations in NPD/EPD with supporting data
• Accurately label products and package samples for external sending
• Buy ingredient supplies and benchmark samples when required

Key requirements

• Degree-level education with a focus in Food/Nutrition Science (or equivalent experience)
• Some experience/knowledge of food environments
• Analytical skills and strong numeracy
