Principal Water Quality Consultant (Modeller)

Overview

In this role you will lead water quality modelling initiatives for coastal and estuarine environments, supporting UK and overseas projects. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to identify pollution sources, model environmental processes, and develop practical solutions that improve water quality and biodiversity. You’ll collaborate with clients and stakeholders to deliver environmentally responsible, scalable outcomes, leveraging advanced hydrodynamic models. This position offers technical development and clear career progression within Stantec’s expanding water quality practice.

Responsibilities

• Scope and design multidimensional water quality models for reservoirs, lakes, transitional and coastal waters
• Collect and process data, build simulations, execute models and present results
• Identify pollution sources, pathways and impacts on receptors; develop engineered and nature-based solutions
• Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams and stakeholders to support clients in the water sector, energy and infrastructure
• Contribute to project delivery across UK and overseas, including regulatory and reporting requirements

Key requirements

• Extensive experience in 2D/3D hydrodynamic and water quality modelling
• Experience with modelling software such as MIKE, Delft3D and Telemac
• Understanding of numerical modelling equations and discretisation; 2D mesh generation
• Basic understanding of physicochemical water quality; knowledge of oceanography and regulatory standards
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; track record in relevant projects
• Working towards or attained chartered membership in a relevant professional institution
