Overview

As Design Manager, you lead multidisciplinary engineering design from inception to completion on large projects, ensuring technical excellence, SHE compliance and programme/budget reporting. You will mentor Design Leads and collaborate with senior engineers to deliver high-quality outputs that meet client standards. The role sits within the in-house Design team supporting multiple regional units, aligned with Galliford Try’s EPIC values and strategy. Responsibilities

  • Lead design solutions for large multi-disciplinary projects from inception to completion
  • Ensure designs meet client specifications, operational requirements and security standards
  • Mentor and develop Design Leads to achieve delivery excellence
  • Maintain programme and budget reporting for design activities
  • Uphold SHE policies and legal requirements to maintain a safe environment
  • Align design activities with GT’s carbon, digital, DfMA and innovation strategies
  • Ensure compliance of design appointments and commercial inputs
  • Scope project requirements through reviews, site visits, and client discussions
  • Prepare financial budgets and programmes for design activities and track progress

Key requirements

  • Effective leadership and people development, with proven management experience
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Excellent IT skills (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and cost/performance management systems (e.g., Oracle)
  • Extensive knowledge of multi-disciplinary engineering design
  • Extensive knowledge of the Water Industry
