Overview
In this role you will lead the commercial effort on a major UK civil rail project, guiding a small team to manage contracts, financial controls and client liaison. You will set the commercial strategy, monitor cost and value, and ensure timely applications for payment in line with the contract. You will collaborate with project teams to support decisions that maximize project value and maintain a strong client relationship. This is a hands-on role with exposure to large-scale delivery and negotiation, within a high-stakes rail environment.
Responsibilities
- Understand contract conditions and ensure team alignment on applicable parts
- Ensure timely and agreed payment applications with the client
- Set and drive the project commercial strategy and training for commercial staff
- Ensure cost and value reporting procedures are followed
- Collaborate with project teams on major decisions affecting outcomes
- Implement financial controls to monitor costs and value of work
- Maintain and enhance client relationships to deliver cost-effective outcomes
Key requirements
- Commercial management experience on large projects for a first tier contractor
- Experience of claims production and negotiation
- Experience using major forms of contract (NEC, ICE, NR9/12 etc)
- Good understanding of construction law
