Overview

In this role you will provide a highly specialist clinical psychology service to inpatients at the North West Spinal Injuries Centre, with scalable outreach and MDT collaboration. You will lead the development of paediatric SCI psychology services and supervise junior colleagues, while delivering assessments and treatments for adults on inpatient and group settings. You will advise non-psychology colleagues on psychological care and contribute to strategic service planning. An EMDR pathway is available for training, reflecting the service’s commitment to high-quality psychosocial care in spinal injuries.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a highly specialist psychology service to inpatients across acute and rehabilitation wards, with outreach as clinically indicated
  • Lead development and delivery of paediatric SCI psychology services and supervise junior staff
  • Provide individual and group psychological assessments and treatments to adult inpatients
  • Provide consultation on inpatient psychological care to non-psychology colleagues
  • Advise on admissions for inpatients with complex psychological/psychiatric needs within outreach
  • Contribute to strategic planning and development of psychology services, including paediatric pathways
  • Represent psychology in wider organisational development within MWL and NWSIC
  • Contribute to teaching and training commitments within the department

Key requirements

  • Post-graduate doctoral training in clinical psychology and HCPC registration
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical psychology in physical health, psychometrics, neuropsychology, and multiple therapies
  • Ability to communicate complex information to adults, families, carers and professionals, and to work within an MDT
  • Experience delivering psychological care autonomously within a multidisciplinary team and providing supervision/teaching
  • Experience working with adults with long-term physical health problems and complex presentations
