As Senior Project Manager/Sector Lead, you will steer delivery of PLC, SCADA and industrial automation projects across water and wastewater facilities, leading a team of Project Managers and Engineers. You’ll shape the sector strategy, cultivate long-term utility relationships and drive continuous improvement across project delivery. The role sits at the intersection of operations, people leadership and business development within a supportive leadership team. You’ll influence performance, safety, and value delivery while helping to shape the future of the water automation business.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Project Managers and Engineers
• Manage performance reviews, development plans, training and 1-2-1s
• Assist recruitment and workforce planning
• Promote safety, wellbeing and environmental responsibility
• Collaborate with Business Unit Manager and leadership to achieve objectives
• Provide leadership cover for the BU Manager when needed
• Lead delivery of automation and control system projects in water/wastewater
• Ensure on-schedule, on-budget, safe delivery per specs
• Oversee planning, resource allocation, risk management and delivery performance
• Review designs, quotations and technical solutions
• Coordinate resources across multiple projects and teams
• Drive continuous improvement through reviews and lessons learned
• Develop relationships with water industry customers and partners
• Identify opportunities for future projects, upgrades and asset improvement
• Support business development, account management and tender submissions
• Prepare and review quotations and commercial proposals
• Maintain commercial awareness in contract review, negotiation and subcontracting
• Ensure NEC contract compliance in project delivery and commercial management
• Act as technical and strategic lead for the Water sector within the BU
• Develop and implement engineering standards and best practices
• Align solutions with regulations, customer requirements and technology trends
• Promote innovation and digitalisation to support customer goals
• Support consistency and collaboration across delivery teams

Key requirements

• Significant experience in system integration, industrial automation or control systems engineering
• Proven experience delivering projects in UK water and wastewater industries
• Strong understanding of PLC, SCADA and telemetry systems
• Demonstrable leadership of project teams and technical resources
• Full project lifecycle experience from concept to handover
• Experience preparing and reviewing technical quotations and project scopes
• Strong subcontractor, stakeholder and customer management
• Commercial awareness with contract, budget and profitability management
• Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts in engineering/utilities projects
