Overview

As Principal Civil Engineer, you will lead civil engineering delivery for a diverse energy portfolio, shaping sustainable infrastructure across the UK and Europe. You’ll operate within the energy team, collaborating with renewables and grid projects to drive technical excellence from feasibility to construction. You will lead multidisciplinary design efforts, verify reports, and mentor junior staff, ensuring projects meet timelines and budgets. Responsibilities

  • Act as lead verifier on technical feasibility studies and design reports
  • Liaise with clients, manage day-to-day project work, and ensure delivery within timescales and budgets
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams
  • Lead design of civil infrastructure including roads, drainage, civil structural infrastructure and external works
  • Prepare and review calculations, detailed design drawings and specifications per UK standards (BS EN, Eurocodes, CDM)
  • Conduct site inspections and respond to technical queries
  • Produce high-quality reports (feasibility studies, inspection reports, design documentation)
  • Mentor and guide junior staff

Key requirements

  • Chartered status or actively working towards chartership with ICE or equivalent
  • Experience delivering complex multidisciplinary projects for Energy Transition
  • Experience in UK Transmission & Distribution projects (11kV-400kV) is highly desirable
  • High technical competency in civil or structural design
  • Strong report writing and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with NGTS or National Grid CDAE status is an advantage
