Overview

As HWRC Site Operative, you support efficient waste management and recycling at Carnforth HWRC. You work as part of the site team, guiding customers and handling day-to-day operations to maintain service standards. The role emphasizes safety, customer care, and hands-on waste processing in an outdoor setting. You will contribute to recycling and reuse initiatives and represent the council in a friendly, professional manner. This entry-level role offers a pathway to certificates and expanded responsibilities during a period of local government reorganisation.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers and advise on facility use
  • Assist customers with depositing waste and handling items
  • Maximise recycling and re-use through sorting and guidance
  • Follow council HWRC procedures and ensure compliance with quality, environmental, and health & safety standards
  • Operate basic mobile or mechanical plant and compaction equipment
  • Support re-use shops and activities
  • Assist Site Supervisor in routine duties in their absence
  • Maintain tidiness and upkeep of the site and perform maintenance tasks
  • Provide high levels of customer service and represent the council positively
  • Work on Bank Holidays as required and be willing to travel to other facilities if needed
