Principal Geochemist Consultant

Overview

In this role you lead geochemistry and hydrogeology projects within a UK environmental consultancy, delivering assessments, investigations and remediation solutions for clients. You will work with senior staff to manage technical and commercial aspects from start to finish, communicating effectively with clients and teams. The position sits within a large, award-winning practice focused on contaminated land and environmental risk management. You will help shape strategic advice and ensure compliance with environmental standards while advancing project delivery at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental assessments (PSA, DSA, QRA, DQRA, CSM) and support groundwater–surface water modelling
• Oversee groundwater and surface water monitoring for project analysis
• Design and implement site investigations with clear rationale and robust examination of geochemical/hydrogeological sites
• Develop, optioneer, specify, implement and validate remediation projects
• Provide strategic advice to clients on managing environmental impacts to water environments
• Guide and support junior team members and coordinate with senior staff for project delivery

Key requirements

• Academic background in geochemical and hydrogeological geoscience or related subjects
• Extensive experience in contaminated land assessment and management
• Strong understanding of regulations and guidance for contaminated land
• Hands-on field experience (site management, drilling supervision, monitoring systems)
• Experience in hydrogeological site characterisation and risk assessment; numerical modelling advantageous
• Geochemical assessment experience; geochemical modelling advantageous
• Chartered with a recognised institution
• Proven track record of project delivery and client relationship building
