Overview
As an industrial placement student, you join Arup’s structural team to learn the craft of structural engineering on real projects that range from minor alterations to major infrastructure. You shadow senior engineers, contribute to low-carbon design, and assist with calculations, modelling and drawings. You’ll work with multidisciplinary teams, develop practical, economical solutions, and grow toward professional qualification within a collaborative, globally connected culture.

Responsibilities
- Carry out structural calculations, modelling and analysis (computer and hand)
- Design structural solutions choosing economical and practical systems with low embodied carbon
- Build and use BIM and other models to understand building behavior
- Communicate through drawings, digital modelling, reports and meetings
- Collaborate with project teams to solve problems and innovate methods
- Learn the practice of structural engineering, codes, software and construction techniques
- Plan work with the team to meet deadlines and deliver on time
- Take responsibility for quality and personal development and impact on others
- Develop new ways of working, including scripting/automation and bespoke software/spreadsheets
- Invest time in building internal and external networks and contributing to the team culture
- Work with Arup systems for deliverables and QA, while minimising environmental and safety risks
Key requirements
- Studying towards a Degree in General, Civil, Structural, Design or Architectural Engineering (2.1 or above)
- Studying or having studied an ICE-accredited course
