Overview

In this role you will develop FPGA-based solutions for defence challenges, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to turn concepts into prototypes. You will own the full development cycle from requirements to delivery, using modern FPGA toolchains. Your work will focus on countering emerging threats through DSP, modelling, and embedded systems, delivering real-world impact. This is a hands-on, collaborative environment that values curiosity, technical depth, and making meaningful contributions while supporting security-clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement FPGA solutions from first principles
  • Lead the full development cycle (requirements through delivery)
  • Work with modern FPGA toolchains to realise complex ideas
  • Integrate DSP, modelling, embedded systems, or advanced communications components
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists and designers to move concepts to prototypes
  • Verify and validate FPGA designs to meet performance and reliability targets
  • Contribute to projects addressing countering technological and cyber threats
  • Support technical discussions and documentation for delivery
  • Explore applicable hardware/software trade-offs and optimisations

Key requirements

  • Strong experience with VHDL or Verilog
  • Exposure to MATLAB/Simulink, electronics, embedded C/C++, SDRs, radar or communications systems (advantage)
  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance
  • Location in Cambridge; relocation support available
