Overview
In this role you will lead the design and delivery of fire protection systems for a range of buildings, ensuring safety and code compliance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across Canada, contribute to technical direction, and mentor junior staff as the fire protection practice grows. You’ll tackle complex design challenges, advance standards, and support project delivery from concept to construction. Responsibilities
- Lead design and development of fire protection systems for building projects with emphasis on safety and code compliance
- Perform hydraulic calculations and system sizing per NFPA and Canadian codes
- Prepare and review drawings, specifications, reports, and presentations using BIM, CAD
- Conduct fire and life safety code analyses and provide technical guidance to teams and clients
- Apply advanced engineering judgment to solve complex challenges and develop standards and guidelines
- Participate in all project phases from concept to construction administration
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and lead coordination meetings
- Ensure deliverables meet scope, schedule, budget, and regulatory requirements
- Conduct field inspections and data collection to verify installation quality and design compliance
- Mentor junior staff and share knowledge across regional and national teams
- Quality assurance reviews and stay updated on emerging technologies and industry developments
- Support business development with proposals and client meetings
Key requirements
- Strong knowledge of fire protection engineering, mechanical systems, and fire safety strategies in buildings
- Comprehensive knowledge of NFPA codes and standards, NBCC, and NFCC
- Experience with sprinkler hydraulics using HydraCAD or HydraCalc
- Proficiency in coordinating multidisciplinary teams through project development and construction
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical communication skills
- Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office; familiarity with building performance tools is a plus
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada and able to obtain licensure in other jurisdictions
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in fire protection engineering
- Experience delivering projects in institutional, commercial, industrial, or infrastructure settings
- Ability to manage budgets and schedules while ensuring quality
