Non-Contentious Construction Legal Director

Overview

As a Legal Director in our London Construction & Engineering team, you will lead on high-value non-contentious projects and act as a trusted adviser to key clients. You will shape procurement strategies, project structures, and contract negotiations (JCT, NEC, FIDIC) while developing client relationships and contributing to firm growth. The role offers genuine partnership progression and a platform to build an established practice within a Top 50 firm. You’ll collaborate across Real Estate, Corporate, Finance, Projects and Regulatory to deliver commercial, cross-functional solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead on complex non-contentious construction matters for major clients
• Draft and negotiate construction documentation (JCT, NEC, FIDIC) and related agreements
• Advise throughout the project lifecycle with multidisciplinary teams
• Develop client relationships and identify business development opportunities
• Mentor junior lawyers and contribute to team leadership

Key requirements

• Extensive non-contentious construction experience from a leading law firm or in-house
• Strong technical expertise on complex construction and development projects
• Proven drafting and negotiation experience with standard-form contracts (JCT, NEC, FIDIC)
• Understanding of procurement, project structuring, risk allocation and project financing
• Established client relationships and ability to develop and maintain a network
• Track record of winning work and contributing to BD
• Ability to lead matters as principal client contact
• Experience supervising and mentoring junior lawyers
• Commercial negotiation and stakeholder management skills
