Manufacturing Engineer

Overview

In this role you will drive the transition of cutting-edge space and defence designs into manufacturable products at Airbus Defence and Space in Portsmouth. You will act as the technical bridge between design and manufacturing within an Integrated Project Team. You will ensure make-items align with capabilities, meeting quality, cost, and schedule targets while supporting new capability developments. You will lead continuous improvement and Design for Manufacture and Assembly efforts to keep the product line competitive. This is a collaborative, impact-focused role with opportunities for development and flexible working.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of New Product Introduction to Manufacturing and Facilities for areas of responsibility
• Deliver Manufacturing Engineering inputs (Work Instructions, routings, cost models, proposals) in line with business processes
• Identify manufacturing facility or capability limitations and coordinate resolutions
• Provide Manufacturing technical support for problem-solving (NCRs, IRB/NRBs and PPS)
• Identify operational performance and technical risks and propose mitigations
• Deliver continuous improvement to enhance capabilities and competitiveness of the Product Line
• Champion Design for Manufacture and Assembly methodologies for New Product Introduction with standard/qualified processes

Key requirements

• Experience and knowledge of high reliability electronics, surface mount assembly and RF products
• Familiar with the project life cycle from design to production including formal reviews, programme control, risk management, cost control
• General awareness of Manufacturing Systems (CAD, CAM, Manufacturing Execution System, SAP, Technical Publications) relevant to the business
• Experienced in working within a matrix structure
