Senior Software Engineer I – Cash Management

Overview

In this role you will help build and scale Wise’s global payment network within the Wise for Banks team. You’ll design robust, highly available services in Java/Spring Boot and lead event-driven initiatives using Kafka to support partner integrations. You’ll work across engineering, product and business teams to expand the platform for worldwide money transfers, mentoring engineers and driving best practices. Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable Java/Spring Boot services in a microservices architecture
• Apply domain-driven design to build robust solutions
• Lead development in event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar messaging systems
• Architect and optimize PostgreSQL schemas and queries for performance and scalability
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support partner integrations and expand the Wise platform
• Participate in code reviews, promote best practices, and mentor junior engineers

Key requirements

• Extensive experience with Java and Spring Boot for backend services
• Strong expertise in microservices architecture and event-driven design
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar messaging systems
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization
• Proficiency in domain-driven design (DDb) is a plus
• Strong product mindset and user-focused approach with data-driven decision making
• Excellent problem-solving and ability to work independently or in teams
• Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences
