Overview

In this role you will promote and embed regulatory compliance and ethical standards across the bank’s AML functions in London, ensuring effective risk management and regulator liaison. You will support the Head of Compliance and MLRO in mitigating financial crime risk and maintaining compliance with PRA, FCA, and related rules. The position involves monitoring, escalation, reporting, and staff training to uphold the bank’s compliance culture. This is a senior, impact-focused role within a small retail bank with opportunities to shape AML practices and regulatory governance.

Responsibilities

  • Execute assurance testing per the compliance monitoring plan to verify adherence to the Bank’s risk appetite and control effectiveness
  • Review and advise on escalations from Anti-Financial Crime Ops and other business teams in the London branch
  • Liaise with 1st line of defense to manage SARs process
  • Investigate and escalate potential legal/reputational issues to Head of Compliance/MLRO and assist with referrals
  • Approve high-risk customers, PEPs, and adverse media hits
  • Manage disputes or complaints regarding financial crime prevention
  • Contribute to financial crime reporting obligations and MI for senior management
  • Perform and oversee remediation activities to ensure timely completion
  • Facilitate staff training on compliance and financial crime
  • Comply with Bank London policies and Group requirements

Key requirements

  • 5-8 years of relevant banking/AML compliance experience in banks or financial institutions
  • Strong understanding of UK regulations (PRA, CRD, FCA Conduct) and ability to interpret them within a bank
  • Experience in compliance monitoring reviews and reporting
  • Strong communication, reasoning, and influencing skills
  • Independent and collaborative team working capability
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant fields would be advantageous
  • AML or Compliance certifications would be advantageous
