Overview
As a Cost Engineer, you will lead cost control across multiple packages and projects within a Nuclear-focused energy program. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to maintain robust cost data, forecasts, and reporting that support management decisions. The role combines technical cost control with leadership of delivery teams to meet time, cost, and quality targets. Responsibilities
- Tailor cost control approaches to client needs and align with best practice
- Implement and maintain cost control systems to track budgets, commitments, expenditures, and forecasts
- Help establish an integrated Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB) with the project team
- Develop CBS and align budgets with WBS to track costs accurately
- Map cost estimates to WBS and set budgets against WPs, planning Packages and Control Accounts
- Follow NEC or FIDIC contract processes for cost data management and reporting
- Lead accruals to reflect Actual Cost of Work Performed (ACWP) timely
- Support change process with cost data for changes and forecasts
- Update forecasts for Estimate To Complete (ETC)
- Ensure cost capture requirements and PO/Wo structure alignment for cost control
- Align POs with CBS to clarify Cost Performance Indices
- Validate supply chain data for accurate forecasting and reporting
- Interact with management when delivering cost control updates on a complex project/programme
- Guide and influence cost control processes on complex projects
- Demonstrate leadership in developing the delivery/cost control team
Key requirements
- Professional Project Controls experience with Cost Engineering/Control across the project lifecycle
- Strong understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM), progress reporting, forecasting and performance reporting
- Strong communication and leadership abilities with team development and inclusion
- BPSS level security clearance (ability to obtain)
- Member of a professional body e.g., APM or PMI
- Experience in cost performance reporting and cost forecasting techniques
- Experience leading Cost Control Assurance activities
- Understanding of scheduling, risk management, reporting, change control interactions with cost control
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to make risk-based decisions with limited parameters
- Strong leadership to mobilise and lead by example
