Overview

In this technical role, you will deliver and review FRAEW and EWS1 assessments for residential, high-rise, and mixed-use buildings, ensuring safe external wall performance and remediation approaches. You’ll work with a small team of Chartered professionals to maintain quality and expand the consultancy’s FRAEW/EWS1 capability. The position offers a strong pipeline of work and a focus on assessment, sign-off, and technical advisory rather than management. You will contribute to shaping remediation strategies and client-facing documentation, while advancing your Chartered status. This is a growth-focused opportunity within a long-established practice affiliated with leading safety bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and technically review FRAEW assessments across a range of buildings
  • Act as competent professional/signatory for EWS1 assessments where qualified
  • Review external wall construction, materials, and fire performance
  • Conduct site inspections and intrusive investigations
  • Provide technical remediation recommendations and risk mitigation
  • Produce clear, technically robust reports and documentation
  • Offer technical guidance to clients, colleagues, and project teams
  • Peer review and quality assure external wall assessments within the team
  • Support cladding remediation programmes from assessment to delivery
  • Contribute to the development of FRAEW and EWS1 offerings as workload grows

Key requirements

  • Chartered Engineer status via Engineering Council or equivalent
  • Experience undertaking and signing EWS1 and/or FRAEW/PAS 9980 assessments
  • Strong technical experience with façade systems and fire performance
  • Experience assessing existing external wall systems on relevant buildings
  • Site inspections and intrusive investigation experience
  • Understanding of external wall remediation and fire safety risks
  • Ability to apply professional judgement to complex matters
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain findings clearly
