Overview
In this role you support operations by carrying out breakdown repairs, leading preventative maintenance, and driving engineering solutions to boost process availability. You will work with operations to ensure safe practices and maintain reliable equipment, supporting continuous improvement and knowledge sharing with operators and apprentices. You’ll use the maintenance system (Pirana) to capture faults and corrective actions, with an eye on cost control and documentation. This is a hands-on, impact-focused position in a leading steel manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on plant, processing machinery, ancillary equipment, and overhead cranes to maximise reliability and performance
- Identify faults, perform root cause analysis, and raise corrective actions in the maintenance management system (Pirana)
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, spare parts inventory, and engineering documentation
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance and operational efficiency
- Assist with training and development of operators, apprentices, and new engineers to promote best engineering practices and autonomous maintenance
- Support engineering teams with resource cover and contribute to team communication, planning and performance improvement
- Ensure accurate recording and communication of spare parts usage and maintenance-related costs
Key requirements
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and materials
- Knowledge of PUWER and LOLER; mechanical engineering qualification with relevant experience
- Experience in preventative maintenance, fault finding, root cause analysis, continuous improvement, and contractor management
- Good communication, organizational and IT skills; ability to work independently and under pressure
- Ability to read engineering drawings and apply mechanical engineering principles to maintenance and repair
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems and maintenance of overhead cranes and mechanical production equipment
- Desirable: welding and fabrication skills; certification or experience in operating overhead cranes, forklift trucks, and MEWPs
