Overview

In this role you provide clinical leadership and expert psychological services across two forensic teams, focusing on individuals with learning disabilities/autism and those with mental illness or personality disorders who have offended or are at risk. You will conduct advanced assessment, formulation, intervention and risk management, while guiding multidisciplinary teams, supervising staff, and contributing to service development and research. You’ll help shape more psychologically informed approaches to reduce risk and improve outcomes in forensic settings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation, intervention and risk management
  • Offer expert consultation and advice to multidisciplinary teams and partner agencies
  • Lead on complex forensic and clinical cases across both services
  • Supervise and support psychology colleagues, trainees and wider team members
  • Contribute to service development, research, audit and innovation
  • Help develop psychologically informed approaches that improve outcomes and reduce risk

Key requirements

  • Post-graduate training in forensic or clinical psychology (as accredited by the BPS and HCPC) with registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Assessed experience of working as a qualified forensic or clinical psychologist for a minimum of six years, including at least 3 years post-qualification within learning disability for forensic needs
  • Experience across diverse patient groups and care settings, with professional management of psychological care and treatment
  • Teaching, training and/or supervision experience
  • Doctoral level knowledge in forensic or clinical psychology, lifespan development, psychopathology, psychometrics and neuropsychology
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to clinical practice and mental health
  • Ongoing professional development per BPS guidelines
  • Formal supervision training for psychologists
  • Effective written and oral communication of complex information
  • Consultation skills with professional and non-professional groups
  • Enthusiasm for service delivery models and multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Complex psychological assessment, intervention and management
  • Risk assessment and risk management in forensic settings
  • Clinical supervision and mentoring
