Overview
In this role, you will support the regional Development Team in Edinburgh or Glasgow to deliver sustainable transport-focused development planning from site appraisal through planning approvals. You will advise private sector and local authorities on residential and mixed-use schemes, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams to drive planning outcomes. Expect hands-on transport studies, stakeholder engagement, and project leadership that shapes high-profile developments across the UK and international projects. Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day delivery of concept studies/strategies and Transport Statements/Assessments, Travel Plans, Parking and Access Studies
- Lead and manage client relationships and project delivery within budget and programme
- Mentor and guide technical staff; contribute to team development
- Engage with stakeholders, design teams, and multidisciplinary professionals to ensure successful planning submissions
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of standards and policies; network to raise WSP profile
- Deliver projects and planning conditions across multiple sites and clients in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Oversee financial and contractual aspects of projects, including bidding and delivery
- Support high-profile client engagement and project management across large schemes
Key requirements
- Numerate first degree in Transport, Mathematics, Geography, Civil Engineering, Planning or related subject
- Experience as lead client contact and fostering client relationships
- Strong written communication for planning proposals
- Knowledge of transport planning guidance and best practice
- Extensive experience in development planning, scheme delivery, sustainable transport and active travel
- Working knowledge of junction modelling software (Junctions 9 PICADY/ARCADY and Linsig) and ability to mentor others
- High numeracy, problem-solving and innovative thinking
- Experience in financial and programme management of projects
- Team management and day-to-day operations experience
- Postgraduate experience or near Chartered status or equivalent commercial experience
