Overview
In this role you ensure health, safety, environment and quality standards across rail construction projects. You will lead HS&E activities, coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams, and drive compliance with rail-specific regulations. You will investigate incidents, deliver training, and maintain ISO and CDM requirements to support safe, compliant project execution. This is a senior, impact-focused position within the Rail Department that shapes safety culture and performance.
Responsibilities
- Advise and lead to maintain SHEQ standards across rail construction projects
- Lead RISQS auditing and management activities
- Oversee HS&E across major multi-discipline rail construction projects
- Lead accident/incident investigations and determine root causes
- Ensure compliance with HS&E legislation and CDM regulations
- Produce HS&E reports and maintain ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 alignment
- Coordinate with teams, clients, stakeholders and supply chain
- Deliver HS&E training to employees and subcontractors
Key requirements
- IOSH certification (strong deciding factor)
- NEBOSH certificated
- In-depth knowledge of Rail HS&E requirements
- RISQS auditing/management experience
- Experience leading HS&E in rail construction and multi-discipline projects
- Incident investigation and root cause analysis experience
- IIRCA certified internal auditor (HS&E)
- Thorough knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001
- Effective communication at all levels
- Computer literate
- CDM regulation knowledge
