Overview

In this role, you will develop mass spectrometry–based analytical applications for newborn screening and quantitative LC-MS/MS assays to support product development and clinical labs. You will contribute to Waters Advanced Diagnostics solutions, ensuring robustness for routine and research settings. You’ll present findings at conferences, generate technical knowledge for stakeholders, and help transfer capabilities to internal and external teams. This role offers meaningful impact in diagnostics innovation and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new applications for clinical research and clinical diagnostics focused on newborn screening and LC-MS/MS assays
  • Produce application notes and scientific posters for clinical research
  • Evaluate new hardware, software and consumables
  • Transfer knowledge of applications, hardware, software and consumables to internal and external stakeholders
  • Present data at scientific conferences and internal/external meetings
  • Support prototype reagent kit development with proposed manufacturers
  • Assist applications lab with customer demonstrations
  • Generate regular written progress reports
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, quality management system, Health & Safety and GLP standards

Key requirements

  • Degree-level or higher in Biochemistry, Chemistry or related life-science
  • Experience in development and validation of analytical techniques using LC-MS/MS
  • Experience with mass-spectrometry techniques related to screening/diagnosis of inborn errors of metabolism (advantageous)
  • Understanding of user-needs and end-to-end workflow in newborn screening/biochemical genetics
  • Experience in working to GLP and QMS
  • Creative problem-solving
