Overview

In this role you will shape resilient frontend systems for Tesco’s customer-facing experiences, using modern JavaScript/TypeScript, React and Node to deliver scalable, maintainable software. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into impactful product improvements, applying best practices in CI/CD, testing and security. You’ll mentor others, lead design discussions and contribute to the evolution of our frontend platform. Responsibilities

• Develop scalable frontend systems using JavaScript, TypeScript, React and Node
• Profile and optimise code for performance and maintainability
• Refactor patterns to improve understanding and maintainability
• Translate requirements into actionable tasks and code
• Deliver high-quality code with continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD)
• Commit early and often with proper version control strategies
• Automate processes by default and write secure, maintainable code
• Implement project instrumentation and follow BDD/TDD/Performance/Security testing practices
• Collaborate with product stakeholders to translate needs into improvements
• Lead system design discussions and work with Product Managers to drive value
• Support production systems, resolve incidents and perform root cause analysis
• Debug complex problems and maintain the software solution
• Share knowledge with the engineering community and mentor others
• Produce proofs of concept to evaluate new tools

Key requirements

• Commercial frontend software development experience
• Strong HTML, CSS, TypeScript and related technologies
• Experience with React, Redux, React-Router and testing libraries (Jest, Cypress, Playwright, etc.)
• Node.js experience for high-traffic apps (Express.js, Sails, Koa or similar)
• UI performance best practices and REST API integration
• Web accessibility and cross-browser/device usability knowledge
• Readable, modular, maintainable code writing
• Exposure to DevOps concepts and Agile/Lean practices (BDDT/ATDD/TDD)
• Ability to communicate with stakeholders and translate needs into value
• Willingness to mentor and collaborate across teams
